This social distancing stuff is hard! Here are six creative and playful things to do together. We will continue to add parts to this series for as long as we are social distancing. If you feel up to it, share with us what you tried and how it went.
- Sidewalk Chalk Murals – inspire your neighbors by creating messages of hope, support and connection on the sidewalk or driveway (if it is safe to do so)
- Giant Jigsaw Puzzles- challenge yourself to turn to the puzzle when you want to turn to the news or social media for updates
- 80’s Night Dance Party – everyone dress up like it is 1983 and throw on Hits from the 80’s, easily find a playlist on YouTube (Or whatever era you want, Roaring 20’s, 60’s, etc..)
- Exquisite Corpse Drawing – An Art Game made by the Surrealists. Play together or set your kids up to do it on their own. Here are links to videos showing how to make someone your own or how to play the game https://youtu.be/AlCjsYBa-_U https://youtu.be/OspixPe-raE
- Pick out photos from your favorite vacations and upload them into Zoom (they have free accounts). Start a meeting. On the bottom left menu, click on the Video camera toggle button. Select “Choose Virtual Background”. Upload your photos here and pick one. You will need a green screen or dark sheet to hang behind you. Now you can create video shorts together by recording interacting with the background. Get silly. Have fun with it. Laugh together and get playful. Don’t forget to hit the record button. You can then edit them using your favorite editing platform. Share your creations with friends and family and challenge them to do some, too.
- Create a photographic scavenger hunt while going on a walk around the neighborhood. Examples of what to find: a pink flower, something yellow, something striped, sidewalk chalk art, a can, a name in the cement, a brick, tire tracks, a squirrel, a bird, whatever usual fauna and flora exist in your area. Get creative with your list. The possibilities are endless. As you walk around take photos of the things you find on your walk.
Stay safe and healthy everyone!!!
